inspired by legacy
Magder Studios, built in 1978 by Zal Magder, was created as a one-stop production hub, complete with a licensed restaurant—something only Abbey Road Studios had at the time.
It quickly became a major player in Canada’s entertainment scene, hosting stars like Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Cher, and even bands like Queen and The Rolling Stones. The lounge was a popular hangout for comedians like John Candy and SCTV legends Eugene Levy,
Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, and Dave Thomas.
In 1989, the studio changed hands, becoming home to TV Ontario and beloved kids' shows like The Polka Dot Door. After more ownership changes, Commercial Studios took over in 2004, but little happened beyond offering shooting space.
In 2019, a team of film and advertising veterans stepped in to restore 793 to its former glory. After four years of hard work, the original sound stages are preserved, offering virtual production stage and new features like a top-tier recording studio, post suites, a 12.4 Atmos Theatre mix room, and a fully functional kitchen have been added.
We’re thrilled to reintroduce 793 to the production world. Come experience the magic of this legendary studio and join the long list of stars who’ve made history here!
